Raccoon!

At the end of the last year I have installed the security cameras outside of our house. They always record the view in front of the entrance door & back door, and when something moves in their sight they send message to my smartphone. Sometimes I checked the video to see if everything's all right. Most of time the moving thing is waving tree or insect, and of course sometimes they record our garden cats walking into or out of the garden X)

Some days ago I checked the video recorded in the middle of the night, and found some animals walking out of our garden - but they are bigger than the cats !

The video is not clear enough but I can see they have the thick, striped tails. So I think they are raccoons!!

Here in Japan originally there were no raccoons, they are the exotic animals. But now they lives everywhere though the number of them is not much big and we seldom see them. I heard many raccoons have hydrophobia or other dangerous diseases, I hope our garden cat would not come across them :(

Oh, I hope so! Yes, racoons are incredibly invasive and yes, they spread infection and also can hurt the cats. Maybe you should contact some authorities? Here we have these too and our authorities try to catch the animals and place in a shelter to prevent them doing a mess here...

Once raccoons find an easy food source they will usually keep coming back for more. They are very smart and can open unsecured garbage cans.

They look like raccoons to me! We have so many around here...they are native to the area.

Even if they aren't carrying any dangerous disease, they are so very persistent. It's difficult to discourage them. I once got into an altercation with a raccoon and it refused to leave, even when I hit it on the head with a broom!

Edited to add: I don't typically hit animals...this happened when I was a young kid.
