The identity and where we live
Dec. 10th, 2020 09:27 amMy friend Mr.& Mrs.K is going to move to some small city in the far west area of Japan for the husband’s job in near future. I checked their future address on Google map. It seems a not bad residential area, compared to their current home in yokohama it’s quite a countryside but their new home in certain apartment is not far from the local train station and bus stop, there are some big shops nearby, and the beach is just 5 minutes walk from the apartment. I also saw the photos of the area, the nearby beach looked nice. But at the same time that area looked quite... rural, so different and very far from Yokohama. This idea somewhat made me feel sad and helpless.
This move might not a big problem for my friends because they had experienced some move in the past, once to a foreign country. But for me who have lived here in Yokohama almost all my life - except about 5 years before I had become 6, so quite little memory about those years - such moving to the far away area seems very very difficult. And I notice that to me, living here in Yokohama means a lot, it’s strongly connected to my identity. I love travels, before this stupid pandemic I have visited foreign countries every year. But visiting other area or country is quite different from living in other area. This might be because I don’t have my own family. If you have a good partner, where your partner lives might be the place you should be, your home.
Anyway. I’m not sure if this is good or bad. It might be a mental poverty and lack of the flexibility. Well... when Mr.& Mrs.K would move to their new home I’m going to visit them and see how good the area might be:)
