Today again the sky was grey but with occasional blue. I took a boat going to Iriomote island which is famous for its great wilderness. There I enjoyed kayaking on Nakama river with a guide. Near the estuary of this river, banks are covered with mangrove forest, the biggest mangrove forest in Japan. And as we paddled up the river, the water becomes fresh and colder, the greenery on the riverbanks changes from mangrove to big fern, palm tree and other tropical plants. The guide took me to the beginning of the river which was a beautiful small waterfall in the forest. Very impressive. Then we paddled back, stoped and landed at certain place to went up to the nearby hill to enjoy the view and have lunch, then again paddled down the river. He said we have paddled about 13km. We had shower sometimes but it’s Unavoidable in the mountain, and we also have mild sun - just sometimes.

Nakama river on Ishigaki island, where I have paddled all the way today. :)

This really is wilderness with every attribute! It looks like Amazonia.
You are lucky to be able to visit this place and enjoy kayaking.

That looks like a long way! I've seen kayakers on the river through the mangroves in Paihia in our bay of islands. Did you ever go there?

It is! I haven't kayaked, but I've walked through the mangroves on the boardwalk. It was magical!
