rediscovered floor

My parents' house, former my grandparents' house is old, originally built nearly 80 years ago. The small entrance hall of the house had had a carpeted floor for over 35 years, it's a thin, plain wall-to-wall carpet. Recently my mother decided to tear the now darkened carpet from the floor and put the new floorboards. But when the workman tore the carpet off he & my mother found the old wooden flooring beneath it. It's old but not much worn, had beautiful colour of well-used wood - the real work of carpenter in the good old days. The workman insisted that we should use the original floor and my mother totally agreed with him, so now we enjoy walking on the old wooden floor every day.
Maybe 35 years ago carpeted floor might be considered smart or modern so someone of our family put carpet on the wooden floor... anyway both of my mother and I had completely forgot the original floor, it's really a delightful surprise to find it.
