Fuki-no-tou
Jan. 25th, 2017 09:58 pmThis is the season of fuki-no-tou, the butterbur scape. This bulb-like flower bud is edible, wonderful for tempura. At the end of my garden we have some butterbur, and every year we can pick some scapes. REcently we got some, and enjoyed them as tempura. They have some bitterness though taste very good - the taste of early spring!

(In the right photo, the green thing is the tempura of fuki-no-tou. The orange ones are carrots.)
