Kanazawa weekend

katriona_sFrom 6th to 9th August I have been to my friend's second house near Kanazawa, a small but very sophisticated historic town near the coast of the Sea of Japan, and one of the most popular travel destination in Japan at the moment. The house we stayed is in the residential area near the local beach, about 15 minutes train ride from Kanazawa station so I could enjoy both atmosphere of famous sightseeing centre and rural beach.
In the towncentre of Kanazawa we visited Kenroku-en, one of the 3 greatest traditional Japanese gardens.

In the afternoon of the same day we went to the local beach to enjoy swimming - It's been years since when I have gone for swim in the sea in Japan last time - and it's a great fun being in water with tube :)

Next day we took trains and visited another town to see Kaiwo-maru, a retired training tall ship. She was beautiful under the blue sky!
Kanazawa is also famous for its various traditional food or Japanese-style confectionery, and next to the train station there are many shops of course. Usually I don't shop much on my travel but this time I spent some money for some food (the local green vegetable, processed food, confectionary) for my mother or friends XD
This was a short trip but good distraction from the busy daily life, really :)
