How do you save money??

I'm not rich (unfortunately!!) but have worked since when I've graduated the university and had proper salary, so have some savings(fortunately!!). But in such insecure days of course we should be more "prepared", especially for the days when we'd be retired. There are people who are good at these things - how to save money, which insurance is profitable, how to reduce taxes, etc. As for me, I'm really helpless about these money thing - all of my family members are. My father, and grandfather were also bad at it.  Recently one of my old friends has turned out to be good at those things... and she gave me some advice which itself was difficult to understand to me X(  But I regreted about my ... lack of effort, and try to think about my financial plan for the future XD  Today I have visited some websites to learn about insurance but they looked rather complex and ...I'm exhausted! X(
Maybe I should rather pay for the lottery ???  XD
