How can we be so stupid?

Recently I have really hated reading newspaper or internet news articles for there are too, too many horrible and unreasonable news on them. Of course it’s not only recently, we have had always had bad news. But now, from local, small news to the international, big news - most of the news are so helplessly cruel. The human’s cruelty to the animals, our helpless stupidity about the global warming and other environmental problems, the combination of the worst selfishness & short sight and the lack of empathy of a certain United States, the most cruel tragedy of fires in Australia (I especially cannot stand reading about the poor wild animals)... and needless to say about so many social problems in every countries. How could we be so stupid? And in this modern age when we can send the spaceship to the far away galaxy why can’t we extinguish the terrible fire? by making the artificial big rain clouds or something? Instead of killing the people by drones or firing the missiles ??
I know we should not close our eyes to those serious problems, to solve them, first we have to fix our eyes on them to know how bad they are, and try to find their reason and understand the background etc, and find what we can do. I know it well still it's too hard to do so now, when it's very very difficult to know what we can do as an ordinary individuals, and when the national leaders and the people with the power and enormous money don't seem to want to change the situation in earnest...
