A ripe fruits of bitter melon

katriona_sThis year we have planted bitter melon as “green wall” outside of one of our windows and now we have many fruits. We usually eat unripe fruit of bitter melon, but I’ve heard that the ripe fruit does not taste bitter, It’s rather sweet. So I decided to see how it would taste.
Bitter melon. The unripe green one is what we see in the grocery store. The yellow one is the ripe fruit.
I cut the fruit. Inside, the seeds have become red.
Unfortunately, “the ripe bitter melon is sweet” was not true. Yes, it wasn’t bitter but not sweet. Maybe putting it in salad might be good.
Anyway, this beautiful yellow fruit is good to look at :) Maybe we’ll left some fruits on the vine and enjoy their colour among green leaves.
