Kintsugi, means golden joinery, is Japanese traditional art of repairing broken pottery. Kintsugi workman mends the broken parts of pottery with Japanese lacquer, covers the lacquered parts with powder of gold or silver most of time. With this mending we can the use once damaged pottery, and the lacqered cracks are considered the nice design, not the damage.
In June I have chiped the small pottery bowl which had formerly belonged to my grandparents, and we have used very often on our supper table. So I decided to ask the Kintsugi craftsman to repair it. Recently I got the repaired bowl. It was nicely mended and I'm glad to have it. For this is one of our casual dishes I didn't want it look showy, asked to use just lacquer instead of gold so you might not notice this was once broken.
Doesn't it look nice?
