Today the temperature is high. In early morning it was about 17°C, the highest temperature during the daytime might be about 23°C - this is the May temperature, I believe. The weather is changeable though. During the night the wind was strong, this morning when I left home it was raining rather heavily :( Thankfully the rain stopped in the morning but the weather forecast says tomorrow we'd have rain again and the temperature would drop. They say the daytime temperature tomorrow would be under 10°C! Brrrr.

Anyway with the current wetness and warmth many trees began to bud. I saw the fresh, beautiful tiny green on the branches of the roadside trees near my office. :D

A few days ago, one Palestinian journalist was killed in Gaza in the missile attack. He was surely not the first journalist killed in that area, and since Israel resumed the massacre people has been dying every day. Though he happened to have been the reporter for one of the biggest Japanese newspaper companies for years so his death and its detailed description was reported in many media here.

Israel often says they want to annihilate Hamas but I believe they just want to kill as many Palestinian as they can, Hamas or no, soldier or infant. This is a genocide. And I see no essential difference between it and the Holocaust by Nazis. During the WW2 the Jewish people had been the victims of the horrible war crimes, but it doesn't mean they have the right to slaughter other people. I don't have any interest in Israeli-Palestinian conflict and much knowledge about it, any particular likes and dislikes or prejudice against Jewish or Arabian people, also one of my good British friends is a Jewish. Still, with such horrible and endless reports from Gaza, how can a decent human have any sympathy with Israel or the Jewish people? Netanyahu is one of the worst war criminals and should have been punished strictly. I can't think he is doing good for the ordinary Israelis.

And, we are all watching what has been happening there for months, years still cannnot do anything to stop the slaughter. This is the worst thing. And USA, the nation once considered a leader of the free nations, has agreed with Israel's crime like they now seem to do the same with Russia.

We are now living in the nightmare, but we are fortunate ones because some people are living in the hell at this very moment.

Even on such crazy time the nature shows the beautiful flowers. Only we human beings are helplessly stupid and cruel.

I am not a fan of Charles Dickens' stories. I have read (the Japanese translations of) some of his most popular novels as "Christmas Carol", "Oliver Twist", "David Copperfield", "A tale of Two Cities" in my twenties, and none of them have impressed me much. Though, some years ago I have happened to read his "Our Mutual Friend" and was fascinated by its various charming characters. Quite fortunately the translation was very good, this might be one of the reasons why I found this story very interesting. This book is not very popular here, first I borrowed that Japanese translation from the local library for they were long out of print. I wanted to have my own books, found and bought the secondhand ones from Amazon - they are a series of paperbacks, originally with reasonable prices but the secondhand prices are shockingly high, about three times the original prices X( , still I think they are worth the money :) Anyway, now I'm rereading this book in the evening, and enjoying much. This is a book about (mainly) two love stories but I enjoy this long novel as the multi-protagonist story, for many of the characters are so attractive. For example Jenny Wren (how can the readers dislike her?), and Alfred & Sophronia lammle(they are the villains, but how vividly they are described!) . And Dickens' writing in this book is so skillful and humorous. This is one of the books I can enjoy anytime. I was very fortunate to meet this book :)

Today again it's fine and warm. But the weather is unstable. After the supper I was in my room. A quiet evening. Then suddenly, I heard the sound of heavy rain and wind from the outside. it has continued about maybe 30 minutes. The sound was so wild and made me a bit nervous. Then it ceased. Again it's a quiet night...

Sunday. In the morning I waxed the floor where I could not do on Thursday. It has done around noon, so I was going to do what I like in the afternoon :)

But, then, I found something's wrong with the Wifi in my house, I had some problems with my smartphone, iPad and the security cameras. I made phone calls to my sister's partner who is very good at the computer and other IT things and has taken care of those stuff in our house for years. He taught me what to check or change with some devices, late in the afternoon thankfully the problem was solved. As always I feel grateful to him and I'm very fortunate to have him. But, anyway, my precious Sunday afternoon has gone with this IT problem, I'm not happy at all :(.

My rabbit Krurun has been relaxed all the while I was in panic...

After the cold rain, we have the sunshine again and it's warm. And today is the national holiday. So I moved the table and chairs from the living room and waxed the wooden floor - with beeswax. It's a bit hard work but made me feel good :) Tomorrow is the ordinary workday so I haven't worked too much, left one room undone. I will do that room on the coming weekend.

The change

Yesterday morning, it’s generally cloudy but with some mild sunshine. On my way to the office I saw this, the magnolia tree in full bloom.

This is one of my favorite flowers. I thought, yes, it’s spring now…

But it began raining last night, and the temperature has dropped. This morning I still heard the sound of light rain. Then. I opened the paper sliding door (shoji) and was surprised to see the white things falling from the sky X(

It’s not the real snow, just sleet. Then soon it has changed into ordinary rain. Though, no wonder about this coldness :(. I wore the winter coat to go to the office.

The spring is still hesitating…

About love, friendship or other fellowship. They are not ... mean looking at each other, but mean looking at the same things - same purpose or goal. Aiming for the same goal and working together make two or more people admire each other. So to make good friends, first we should do or look at something seriously, not just looking for the people we would be able to like. Any job, hobby, something we can love or do in earnest.

So, before retiring from the job in near future, now I feel like I want some more good friends, what should I do ???

Today I worked at home. After the cold rain yesterday, today it’s lightly cloudy with occasional mild sunshine. My rabbit Krurun sometimes ran around me, so I took her up on my lap.

See? How cute she is! :) But she didn’t like being there for a long time, and I couldn’t do my job with her so I reluctantly let her go.

And. After the lunchtime when I looked out of the window I saw one of our garden cats but he was…

I told you DO NOT relax ON the water basin before!! A naughty boy!!!

As you see here, it’s sometimes very difficult to concentrate on the job at home XD

The spring is really hesitant. After a gew warm days, yesterday the temperature has dropped and it has begun to rain. This morning the rain was rather heavy, fortunately little winds but rain continues all morning. Now. In the afternoon rain has become lighter still continues, and the temperature is low. Out garden cats (2 of them) are curling into a ball together in an old cardboard box for hours.

I didn’t want to wake them and took these photos from behind the windowpane. They were sleeping soundly…

His is a gloomy day but I think this rain would grow the spring plants…

About 5 years ago? I had planted a mimosa tree in our backyard. It had grown too big within just a few years, last summer I had to cut off most of the branches :( But I didn’t cut down the whole tree, left some branches. Now, on those branches I left there come the beautiful yellow flowers. Their bright yellow colour looks beautiful even under the cloudy, grey sky. I picked some branches and put the flowers into some small vases. The beauty of spring…

Happiness

On my trip to Ishigaki island I have stayed in a small, reasonable hotel. It's convenient and comfortable enough but the bathtub in the hotel room was a bit small. So after coming home I enjoyed to stretch my legs in hot water in my bathroom :) Also my own pillow felt so comfortable after sleeping on an unfamiliar bedding. I enjoyed my trip very much, though I also felt the mild happiness in my house.

Now it's been a week after the trip, on every workday I go to the office, come home and have supper ... then just 1 or 2 hours left before going to bed. In those evening hours I'm generally tired, don't feel much motivation to do something. So I often take my rabbit Krurun up in my arms, hold her for a while. Her soft fur feels so nice to my cheek, her warmth soothes me much :) It's really, quiet and sheer happiness.

I like travel, and know I'm fortunate to be able to travel sometimes, but maybe the most fortunate thing is that I have this ordinary, usual life.

The spring weather is very changeable. Now we think the winter has almost gone, it's the beginning of spring. On sunny day the temperature is not low, we don't need the thick coat to go out. But on a rainy day - like today - it's so chilly and wet. Today I have worked at home and turned on the floor heating!! The weather forecast say tomorrow we'll have sunshine, and the temperature will rise. It's rather difficult to decide what to wear :(

Though in the rain Yukiyanagi, Thunberg's meadowsweet flowers are beautiful :)

But the garden cats of course do not like the rain. Two of them were in the old cardboard box for hours today.

The 11th March. It's already 14 years, from the fatal day of Tohoku great earthquake and tsunami, and the nuke crisis. The TV news said more than 22 thousand people were killed or missing by them. Surprisingly and tragically, about 2500 people are still missing - their body have not been found. This is, of course, because of the tsunami. Many people, houses and precious things were wasahed away by the massive waves. (The great Hanshin earthquake in 1995 has killed over 6400 people but most of the victims were soon found, just 3 people were still missng.) Thinking about this disaster still brings tears to my eyes.

The earthquake and tsunami are the natural disasters which are essentially unavoidable but the nuke crisis was a man-made disaster, which has been forcing more than 20 thousands people into evacuation life even now.

Just after the disaster I felt, and believed that we had to change many ways of our life and social systems for the sake of the victims. But what has changed better in our society since then? I can't say. We are so stupid, lazy and forgetful. Our life and society are still on the edge of great danger but we behave as if we are totally safe. We really need to reflect our life, society and the nature. Need to think seriously, and act.

This is the gloomy day, and we should be serious and think...

At the entrance of our office.

After the cold rain and snow on Saturday afternoon, here in Yokohama it’s fine on Sunday and Monday. During the daytime the temperature rises. This change of the weather made the cedar pollen be scattered everywhere, now many people wear masks to aviod it. In mid-winter many people has kept wearing mask not to catch the flu, but now, I see far more people wearing it and their intention must be protecting them from the pollen X(

Spring is the time when the plants show the fresh leaves and buds, and beautiful flowers. But also the time of pollinosis which now more than half of the Japanese suffer (so they say) :( I have just a light allergy but for the people who has the serious pollinosis, this is the gloomy season X(

Came home

I came home in the middle of the afternoon today. I washed the swimwear, took the stuff from the bag and put them into the closet etc. Also I had to check the e-mails arrived during my absence. Tomorrow my ordinary life will start again, I’ll go to the office so I feel rather busy X( And I found the sign of coming spring in our garden…

Today again the sky was grey but with occasional blue. I took a boat going to Iriomote island which is famous for its great wilderness. There I enjoyed kayaking on Nakama river with a guide. Near the estuary of this river, banks are covered with mangrove forest, the biggest mangrove forest in Japan. And as we paddled up the river, the water becomes fresh and colder, the greenery on the riverbanks changes from mangrove to big fern, palm tree and other tropical plants. The guide took me to the beginning of the river which was a beautiful small waterfall in the forest. Very impressive. Then we paddled back, stoped and landed at certain place to went up to the nearby hill to enjoy the view and have lunch, then again paddled down the river. He said we have paddled about 13km. We had shower sometimes but it’s Unavoidable in the mountain, and we also have mild sun - just sometimes.

Nakama river on Ishigaki island, where I have paddled all the way today. :)

The 2nd day of my trip. The clouds was a bit lighter and the wind was not as strong as yesterday. So I think it’s OK X). I went to one day kayaking tour. Fortunately the guide was a very skilled, knowledgeable man and he took me to the beach where the wind and wave were not strong. The sky was grey and the colour of the sea was not like the tropical sea but I could enjoy paddling. And the greenery on the beach, waterfront was very tropical and beautiful.

Today and tomorrow I took days off from the office, for a short trip. Now I’m in a small hotel on Ishigaki island, one of the southern-westernmost islands in Japan. In winter the local weather is very changeable on this island but usually I’m quite fortunate about weather on my trip so I have expected the fine or at least so so weather. But in reality when I arrived at Ishigaki airport it was drizzling, this is the southern island so the temperature was not very low but the worst thing was the was the wind for I came here for kayaking :( I was going to join the evening tour visiting the waterside to find the big coconut crab this evening but the tour was cancelled because f the rain :(

I have booked one day kayaking tour for tomorrow but can not be sure about the weather XD Just hope the strong wind would cease!

Yesterday morning I opened our kitchen door and found many Ume petals on the paved ground, they have fallen from the Ume tree in our neighbour's garden. Every winter we enjyed this sharing of the coming spring :)

Though yesterday afternoon the cold rain began to fall, it has become wet snow in the evening. The temperature has dropped of course, it's really freezing in the evening! :(

Fortunateky the snow stopped sometime in the night, still I saw the remain of it in the garden when I opened the shutters this morning.

Spring is always hesitant....
